Guatemala, Santa Rosa

Tasting Notes:
Toasted Marshmallow, Chocolate Creme, Graham Crackers
Processing:  Mountain Water
Elevation:  1300+ MASL
Varietal:  Bourbon, Caturra

Sometimes you just want to sip on a delicious cup of coffee without the caffeine kick. Let's be honest, decaf coffees have gotten a bad rap because many disappoint! Not this special Mountain Water-processed Guatemalan lot.

This decaffeinated lot comes to us from the storied highlands of Santa Rosa, Guatemala, where the Keller family has cultivated coffee on Finca Santa Isabel for over a century. Grown at elevations above 1,300 meters, this lot features Bourbon and Caturra varietals nurtured beneath a biodiverse canopy and harvested with precision.

After washing, the coffee is decaffeinated using the Mountain Water Process—a gentle method that immerses the beans in glacial water from Pico de Orizaba. This slow, chemical-free process removes caffeine while preserving the bean’s natural aromatic solubles, locking in the character of this exceptional lot and leaving the beans with a glossy finish.

Baristas who brew this coffee describe the cup as a nostalgic treat—layered with notes of toasted marshmallows, chocolate crème, and graham crackers. The mouthfeel is smooth and round, with a mellow sweetness that carries through every sip. It’s a decaf that doesn’t hold back—perfect for cozy evenings or anytime you want flavor without the buzz.

Enjoy and share a bag of our decaf lot today!

Mexico - Oaxaca
from $25.00

Mexico, Oaxaca

Tasting Notes: Caramel Apple, Honey, Milk Chocolate
Processing: Washed
Elevation: 1700 - 1900 MASL
Varietal: Bourbon, Typica

This washed lot comes from the rugged highlands of San Pedro Yosotatu, a small community in Oaxaca’s famed Mixteca region. Grown at elevations reaching up to 1,900 meters, this coffee is cultivated by indigenous Zapotec families who farm small plots using traditional, organic methods passed down through generations. The varietals—primarily Typica and Bourbon—thrive in the region’s cool mountain climate and rich, loamy soils.

After harvest, ripe cherries are fermented in wood tanks, washed clean in mountain spring water, and slowly dried on woven mats. This gentle process preserves the clarity and sweetness of the cup, highlighting the distinct terroir of the region.

Baristas describe the cup as bright and comforting. It opens with a crisp note of caramel apple, followed by rich honey sweetness and a finish of silky milk chocolate. Balanced and approachable, this coffee shines across brew methods—from filter to espresso—and is a testament to the care and craftsmanship of its producers.

ROOTS @ Kenz - Coffee for a Cause

20% of all proceeds from this lot directly support our Roots partner charitable organizations helping those most in need, here and around the world.

Roots at Kenz is aimed at harnessing the power of community and interconnectedness to bring light to our shared humanity. By exploring our individual roots, we are able to cultivate our strengths and realize our unique gifts to the world.

Because when we dig deeper, we stand stronger.

Did you know…

Our founder, Mohammad Subeh, is a Palestinian who sought refuge in Los Angeles as a child, experiencing different war zones from early on. Life could have taken him down very different roads. But community, purpose, and faith gave him the fortitude to live out his life’s purpose - to serve humanity as an emergency physician locally and abroad, while building Kenz as a physical and virtual space to pause, pulse check, and reflect on our individual journeys.

While on an annual medical mission to El Salvador with the Castañeda Kids Foundation in 2020 serving the community of Villa Palestina, he came to learn of the generations of Palestinians that migrated to El Salvador over the decades, appreciating the deep roots Palestinians had in the diaspora. In 2023, he cupped one of the best Salvadoran coffees from Finca Los Angeles with our friends from Cafe Los Naranjos - a coffee that won the Cup of Excellence! We’re proud to bring this coffee to our home brewers as our inaugural Roots lot.
